• 2024 Seguin Area Youth Leadership Application (SAYLA)

    DEADLINE to submit your completed application (including the school approval form and two reference forms) is Monday, May 6, 2024.

    Before you start please allow 20-30 minutes to complete the application. At the end of the application, there will be a self-evaluation.     PURPOSE
    The purpose of the Seguin Area Youth Leadership Academy is to provide students with a theoretical and operational foundation in the essential skills, beliefs, and practices of leadership. Through their participation in the program, the students will be prepared to have a positive impact on the quality of life in our community.
    High School students who are Sophomores (10th) or Juniors (11th) residing in Guadalupe County are eligible to apply. Participants are chosen by the Selection Committee based on the information provided on the application. The committee seeks a diverse group of students who demonstrate leadership potential and are motivated, creative, and are interested in developing skills and a sense of community. The estimated value of the program tuition is $500. Thanks to the generosity of community sponsors, students will attend the program for $25 (non-refundable). This amount will be paid within 72 hours of submitting my application. Financial Assistance is available if needed. Students must be willing to commit to attending all activities and have all required documents completed and turned in by the deadline. Students must have passed every course the last semester prior to the application deadline.
    OBJECTIVES
    ▪ To identify students who have demonstrated leadership qualities or displayed a potential toward leadership.
    ▪ To select a class that represents a diverse group of students - including gender, ethnicity and geographic areas.
    ▪ To present in-depth programs to acquaint participants with community needs, opportunities, challenges and resources, and to encourage interaction with community leaders.
    ▪ To understand the responsibilities of a leader and to develop skills in ethical decision-making.
    ▪ To foster opportunities for teamwork and collaborative problem-solving.

    Attendance is mandatory for graduation from the program and if I do not make the required hours I will not graduate from the program. Parents’/Guardians’ must understand that students may not graduate from the program if more than 4 hours unexcused / 6 hours excused hours of the program are missed. No refund will be given.
    Please know that SAYLA is NOT CAMP!!! I understand SAYLA is an extremely intensive, leadership development and community awareness program, so be prepared for very long days, work hard, and learn A LOT. You will also be addressing community issues, and presenting your completed community service at the SAYLA Graduation Ceremony. *

    The tuition fee of $25 will need to be paid upon completion of your application. Please call or text Maria Castilleja with the Seguin Chamber of Commerce at 830-359-7065 to arrange payment.
    The unisex size does run big verses the ladies size.
