The Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the availability of grants for groups that enhance the quality of life in Seguin. The source of funds is voluntary donations to the Help Seguin Shine Fund from City of Seguin utility customers or donations from individuals and businesses.
Your group can apply for a grant by proposing a project that will benefit the community as a whole, creates economic value to the city, and has visibility and impact. We are particularly interested in funding projects that demonstrate community involvement through the use of volunteers and show partnerships between community groups. We are looking for projects that will:
Beautify or improve the general attractiveness of the city
Enhance Seguin’s parks
Enhance seasonal or permanent lighting or decorations
Improve city infrastructure or capital improvements
Enhance recreation for Seguin residents or visitors
Increase opportunities for tourism, sporting events, competitions, conventions, or seminars
These are reimbursement grants, usually in the $250 to $2,500 range. You have one year to complete your project. If you cannot, you must request an extension in writing or your award funding will be forfeited. You must save your receipts from all expenses related to your project. After the project is finished, send a letter describing what you have accomplished and a photo to Help Seguin Shine at the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce, 116 N. Camp Street, Seguin 78155. Attach copies of your receipts and total the amount you spent. When your award check is ready we will schedule a photograph and publicity for your efforts to beautify Seguin.
Projects funded in 2018 were Planters for Downtown Seguin, Texas Ranger Mural for the Seguin Commission on the Arts, Electrical Repairs at the Boys & Girls Club of South Central Texas, Awnings at Teatro de Artes and the Wildlife Viewing Area at the Seguin Outdoor Learning Center.
Projects are judged on their feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and community benefits. The Help Seguin Shine Task Force awards point for volunteerism, partnerships between community groups, enhancements to city park, seasonal or permanent lighting, capital improvements and increased opportunities for tourism, recreation, sporting events, competitions, conventions, seminars or meeting.
Deadline is Sept. 13.
